Welcome to my website! I'm Michael McCarthy. I am an experienced, dynamic, flexible & caring personal trainer. I own Arlington's small elite indoor/outdoor gym. I take all COVID precautions. My gym is OPEN.
Thanks for visiting my website. I'm one of the dozen or so adults who grew up in this area. Fitness has always been a cornerstone of my life. Before I became an ACE certified full time personal trainer in 2009, I taught elementary school. I'm grateful to call Arlington home. I love sharing my passion for health & fitness with my clients. I love training in my gym with all the latest & greatest fitness tools. I have Bipolar 2. I will have it the rest of my life. It doesn't define me. I've managed my mental illness quite vigilantly and successfully since 2012. I take my medications religiously, but it takes a lot more than prescribed drugs to stay on the right mental health track. Nutrition, fitness, sleep, stress management, gratitude, meditation, therapy, time outside & laughter all keep me grounded. I've also learned that you can't manage Bipolar by yourself. You have to share your struggle with family & friends. All of these things that I do every day to manage my Bipolar (with the exception of medication), benefit all people. That's my story & I'm sticking to it.

Boot Camps In My Arlington Gym
If you're looking for a drill sergeant of a personal trainer, this is not it. If no amount of rain or snow will stop you from training outside, this is not it. If you want to train hard & have fun with a small group, you've come to the right place. You're going to use the best equipment. You're going to do great workouts. Not only will every workout be different, every workout will meet all of your fitness needs. Train hard. Enjoy some quality social interactions with your fitness group. Join an already existing boot camp. Form your own boot camp.
Zoom Personal Training
It may not be as good as traditional personal training, but it's virtually great. You can't beat the convenience of training in your own basement. If you're on vacation, pressed for time or a little bit under the weather, Zoom has your back. You can do the workouts with or without equipment that you own. I would recommend getting a few inexpensive but very effective pieces of equipment like a jump rope, resistance bands, a stability ball, a medicine ball & some dumbbells and/or kettlebells and/or bars.
Burke Boot Camp
In 2009 we started training 3 days a week in one of our founding member's garage. We upgraded to an elementary school. Fast forward to 2021. We've shared over 1,700 workouts together. What a group & what a ride! There is something special about getting together early in the morning & training with such wonderful people. When it's too cold outside, we do the workout on Zoom. Come join us Tuesdays/Thursdays at 6:00 am & Saturdays at 6:20 am.
Since COVID we've been training at Terra Centre Elementary School. The previous 10 years we trained at The Ponds Community Center. The plan is to move the boot camp back to The Ponds eventually.

I've been going to Michael Fit Life's boot camps since 2010 and love it. He is an excellent trainer, and makes working out fun. I have stuck with it for so many years not only because of the camaraderie of the group, but also the variation in the strength and fitness training. We never do the same workout twice. I very much recommend Michael FitLife for anyone looking to have fun, improve core strength and stay healthy. I turned to Michael as part of rehab for a knee injury and back pain and in the past 3 years, he's helped me recover from both, lose 7 lbs and turn in the best 10 mile and 5K race times I've had in a decade. His coaching style and interesting workouts motivate me every week. You will be challenged. Rates are competitive and he's very accommodating/flexible on schedules. He has even provided me with personalized "do it yourself at home" workouts for in-between sessions that don't require a lot of space or equipment. I like that.
